Is Your Lens Reliable?

What’s going on with families in our society today?  There are some amazing families and you know what? They are each a little crazy, a little fun, sometimes confused but when you’re committed to advocating for families you can really make a difference, in your own family and in others. Are there things you can do to take your family to the next level? There sure are!  But what is the lens you personally choose to look through to examine truths about what works best for families?

Your friends’ ideas?  The media? One research study? Scripture?
What lens are you going to choose and how can you check it out?

Dangerously, many people start to believe statements just because they have been around so long, they must be true.   But where did the idea ever originate from?  As a member of the human race, how gullible are you?  Do you believe every source of news you hear in the media? Do you follow trends just because that’s what society believes? Do you trust your friends’ personal beliefs as fact and truth?
There is a growing amount of misinformation circulating in society, among neighbors, families, voting districts, school campuses, business colleagues and so on.  It doesn’t matter where you go, you are going to meet people who share with you their ideas and claim them to be their own opinion or something, they have learned to be a fact.  Either way, whether they claim opinion or fact, do you believe them unconditionally?  How many times do you need to hear something repeated before your mind comes to accept it as true, whether or not it really is based on true evidence?

When it comes to family life….information matters!
Some here-say statements won’t have much impact on the general population or change the dynamics of daily living and how we perceive the world.  However, information about the family and concernedly, misinformation about the family can reap unforeseen damage to the very structure of society we live in.

So what lens are you going to use to take your family to the next level?  Here are some reliable sources that I have found help my family be more patient with each other, get work done together, learn together and play together.

Challenge this week:
Focus on the starting line and the finish line each day!  Give an encouraging word to each member of your family as you start the day. After a busy day of responsibilities, finish up the same way with an encouraging word or expression of thanks to each person in your home.
